What is the difference between Botox and filler?

You may hear Botox and filler mentioned in the same breath. They are separate treatments, and it is easier to understand each one when you ask about it on its own.

Seeing how the two differ

Ask your provider to explain the two side by side for your goal: what each product is, what it is used for, and why they would suggest one, the other or neither.

Cost, downtime and commitment for each treatment

Put both treatments through the same three checks:

  • What does each one cost, and which parts repeat?
  • What should I plan around after each one?
  • Is there room to try one without being steered toward the other?

Then ask who would do the treatment and what training they have.

Asking where the Botox comes from

Take your list to a consultation and ask for a plain comparison. It is also kind to yourself to ask where the Botox comes from. Three readings cover botulinum toxin products like Botox: a dermatologic surgery society's patient page on neuromodulators, a case report titled From Botox Party to Botulism, on adulterated botulinum toxin injection, and a review that asks what the facts are about botulinum toxin deaths. All three are about botulinum toxin, not filler.

Hearing more than one opinion

A licensed provider who has seen you in person can explain which treatment, if either, fits your goals. It is fine to take your time and hear from more than one.
